Please may I introduce myself, John Carolin, as the new Chair of the Pyrford Green Belt Action Group. Our outgoing Chair, Carole Gale and her family recently relocated to Wiltshire leaving a vacancy for the post of Chair, and I was elected following our last committee meeting. Carole did such a good job as Chair, we are all very grateful to her, and wish her well in her new home.
I have lived in Pyrford for more than 25 years and I share Carole’s passion for our countryside. I also believe that the Green Belt continues to have a most vital role in avoiding urban sprawl in Woking and that it needs to be protected from development.
Following the Martyr’s Lane consultation last year, we are still waiting for Woking Borough Council to publish a new version of their Site Allocation Development Plan Document which will set out, amongst other things, the areas of land that could be taken out of Green Belt to be used for development. The two fields either side of Upshot Lane in Pyrford remain at risk. We will contact you as soon as there is any news on this topic so that you can make your views known, but we don’t expect publication until September/October 2018.
